The Annex at Benson's Pet Center

We are so fortunate to have a great group of volunteers help us with our cat room!  These folks have committed to spending time every day caring for, playing with and socializing our cats and kittens, once they come to the Benson's Pet Center Clifton Park cat room. We are very grateful for their help and support.

Evil Dick- Courtesy post for a cat in the capital district who urgently needs a new home

Image
From his mom: Black long hair is Evil Dick (names when a stray and I never thought I’d be able to touch him) but he comes running to being called Baby. Loves to be on your lap, rubbed etc, even his belly.  3 years old, FIV positive (so he really shouldn’t be outside). Thinks he is a dog probably because he will be first in line for treats and will swipe the food right out of their mouths and definitely not afraid of them, even if chased. The dogs are afraid of him. My two Rotties wouldn’t go to their food bowls if he was near them, but he’d walk right in between them when eating. Funny cat! ((current in his shots and vetting))

Coco- Courtesy post for a cat in the capital district who urgently needs a new home

Image
From his mom: Grey short hair is Coco. He is affectionate but doesn’t like kids terrorizing him (like most animals).  5 years old, neutered. Likes to cuddle with me when I’m sick or napping, but doesn’t like his belly rubbed most of the time. Is ok around dogs but doesn’t like being chased (of course). People across street had him and didn’t let him in so I was feeding him for over a year before I figured out he was theirs. He preferred my house and when they moved he came back to my  house one day, they took him back, but he came back a second time. They told me to keep him. Very low maintenance cat, except for affection here and there.   ((he is current in shots and vetting))

Support small business like Benson's Pet Center

This holiday season, and the year that follows, please support smaller businesses like Benson's Pet Center, instead of the big box stores. This is a locally owned business who supports rescue in every single store, from cats to dogs to rabbits to fish. Supporting Benson's means your support rescue, and quality food, toys and other supplies.  And their friendly, knowledgeable staff are some of the best folks around!!!

ADOPTION PENDING! Ginger- an adoptable cat at Benson's Pet Center in Clifton Park

Image
ADOPTION PENDING  !  Ginger is about 5 years old. She came to rescue with her kittens (cinnamon, clove, pepper and paprika), and Rif Raf, Rik Rak, Ricki Ticki Tavi (and Ram Rod who has been adopted). She lost her home when her dad suddenly lost his home and all the cats were displaced. She is very mellow, easy going and friendly. She is cat social, human friendly, current in vetting, spayed and fiv/felv combo test negative. She is very adaptable and would be fine as an only cat or with other cats.

Shown below with her brother, Riki Tiki Tavi (with the white feet), all three of these older kittens are vetted, spayed/neuter, fiv/felv combo test negative, cat social and human friendly. ADOPTED!!! VanDamme - an adoptable cat in foster in the capital district

Image
ADOPTED!!! VanDamme was named for his big feet and kick-ass escape moves which he used (unsuccessfully) to avoid capture!  He is skiddish but LOVES being petted and cannot resist purring. He is a gorgeous and polydactl (extra toes) Siamese mix kitten about 4-5 months old. He is neutered, vetted, fiv/felv combo test negative. He is cat social. He would do well in a quiet, patient home. He came from a home with many other cats/kittens that was under construction, so he is startled by loud noises. He is a great cat who will charm and delight you.

ADOPTED!!! Storm- an adoptable kitten in foster in the capital district

Image
ADOPTED!!! Storm is an adoptable 4-5 month old kitten who was homeless in Albany. She has adapted to life indoors and is cat social, but still shy with humans. She is very mellow and sweet. She would do well in a quiet house with at least one other friendly cat. She is spayed, vetted and fiv/felv combo tested negative. Her unusual grey tortoise markings inspired her name.

Brady - An adoptable cat in foster in the capital district is still waiting

Image
Brady is STILL waiting???  Brady is about 18 months old, and spend most of his first year as a homeless street kitten. Brady has really blossomed into a fun, playful social cat while in foster in his first actual home. He waits outside the bedroom door in the morning, and when his foster mom comes out- Game On!. He tries to engage her in play in any way he can!  He loves to play, and would do best in a home with at least one playful cat. He is cat social and mixed energy (playful but not high energy). He has not been around dogss. Although not a lap cuddler, he does enjoy petting and like to hang out with his human. He is neutered, fiv combo test negative and up to date on shots. Brady's beginning was very hard - are you the one who will make sure his best days are yet to come?

PeeBee & Jay- adoptable pair of kittens in foster care in the Capital District

Image
PeeBee & Jay are about 4 months old and came to rescue less than one month old. They were saved by a good Samaritan who found them on a construction site in Troy after their sibling was accidentally run over on the site. They are very friendly, cat social, high energy kittens. They are both vetted and up to date on shots. Peebee (in left pic) is spayed and is fiv/felv combo test negative. Jay is neutered (in right pic) and has tested fiv positive, felv negative. They are currently in foster in the Capital District. While fiv can be transmitted to other cats (generally via a very deep bite wound), the risk is relatively low and a cat with fiv can have a long, full, happy, healthy life.

Lily- an adoptable cat currently in foster in the Capital District

Image
Lily is a young female, rescued after being dumped with her kittens in a rural part of Rensselaer county. She is shy but affectionate once she feels safe; she is cat social, spayed, utd on shots, fiv/felv combo test negative. She would do best in a quiet home.

We could not help as many animals as we do without the help of Benson's Pet Center. They support rescues (not just RER) in lots of ways, including: pet pantry, donations, sponsoring adoption clinics at each store, the Benson's annual Pet Adoption Fair.  Even if you aren't ready to adopt, you can support rescue by supporting Benson's Pet Center.

ADOPTED!!! Ceelo Tyson- an adoptable cat, currently at Benson's Pet Center in Clifton Park

Image
ADOPTED!  On CHRISTMAS EVE!!!  :) How is Ceelo still waiting??? He charms everyone who meets him.  This is your change to hang out with a celeb!  Ceelo Tyson is about 3 years old. After his family moved, he was left to "mouse" in an abandoned building for about 2 years. He was named by the teenagers who found him when they were helping rehab the building, because "...he sings and he looks like he was in a fight".  Ceelo is singing happier songs now that he has come to rescue; he was pretty skinny but he is becoming quite a looker. His scars tell the story of the last few years, but his heart and affectionate nature tell how much he still loves people. He is cat friendly, and fairly dog tolerant (he doesn't love them, but he doesn't necessarily run; he does not attack either)- he could live with a middle energy cat savvy dog who respected his space. Much like his namesake, he has a big personality and sometimes seems more dog than cat (he will steal your vac

ADOPTED!!!! Cheeto: An adoptable cat, located at Benson's Pet Center in Clifton Park

Image
ADOPTED!!!! Cheeto is the last of Ginger's litter of kittens who is still waiting for a home. The shyest of the bunch, he has really blossomed while at Benson's and is a friendly, playful and affectionate. He is cat social. He is a beautiful, charming kitten.

Why we love Benson's Pet Center....

In addition to providing an adoption space for cats in need, Benson's has: knowledgeable and friendly staff; great products; a pro-rescue commitment; a pet pantry for animals in need; and the list could go on and on. Even if you don't have space in your home a rescued pet (or another rescued pet), you can support rescue by supporting the folks who support rescue - like Benson's Pet Centers!

ADOPTED!!! Ginger- an adoptable cat

Image
ADOPTED ! Ginger is not nearly as spicy as her name suggests. She is sister to Patches Mustatches and also spend the first year of her life living in the woods of Warran County, after their pregnant mom was dumped there. Barely a year old, Ginger found herself pregnant and gave birth to her first (and last) litter of kittens (Ginseng, Ginko, Cheetah, Cheeto and Chester). Ginger is named after the senior citizen who contacted us seeking help with, and a better life for, these cats. Ginger is shy with humans, but affectionate and tolerates petting and handling; she is learning how to live in a house and is unsure about dogs (but not dog aggressive). She is cat social and would do best in a home with at least one other cat. She is mellow and sweet, low energy and low maintenance. She has a beautiful coat and a sweet demeanor and with a little time and patience, will spend the rest of her life making someone a great companion.  She is about one year old, spayed, up to date on shots, FIV co

ADOPTED ! Patches Mustatches- an adoptable cat

Image
ADOPTION PENDING! Mr. Patches Mustatches spent his first year living in the woods of Warren County with his sister and his mom, after his mother was dumped there while pregnant. This debonaire man about town doesn't let this get him down!  He is charming and knows he is handsome, but doesn't require lots of attention. He is learning to live in a regular home, with cats and dogs. He is reserved but playful, cat social, neutral with medium and low energy dogs, and is generally a low maintenance and a low energy cat. He would do best in a home with at least one other cat.He is fully vetted, neutered, UTD on shots, FIV combo test negative. About 1 year old.

Image
Like the artist for whom he is named, Rembrandt's later years have been hard. At age ten, he found himself at a local shelter. No place for such a gentle, loving soul with so many good years left. He is friendly, affectionate, and low-key. He is now in rescue via Rottie Empire R escue. He is neutered, current in shots, and cat friendly- come meet the cat who has raised dispensing cat affections to an art form!  (Rembrandt has a minor heart murmur which does not require medication but causes his eyes to water).
